With a calculator
This online calculator calculates various cylinder properties based on 2 known values. This is a right round cylinder where the top and bottom are parallel but are usually called "cylinders".
* Units: Please note that units are displayed for simplicity, but do not affect calculations. Units are available to indicate the order of results, e.g. B. ft, ft2 or ft3. For example, if you start with mm and know r and h in mm, your calculation will produce V in mm3, L in mm2, T in mm2, B in mm2 and A in mm2.
Below is a standard formula for a cylinder. Calculations are based on algebraic manipulation of this standard formula.
The cylinder formula is related to r and h:
o V = πr2h
• Calculate the cylindrical side surface (only curved outside) **:
o L = 2πrh
• Calculate the top and bottom of the cylinder (2 circles):
o T = B = πr2
• The total area of the closed cylinder is:
o A = L + T + B = 2πrh + 2 (πr2) = 2πr (h + r)
** The calculated area is only the outer wall area of the cylinder. To calculate the total area, you also need to calculate the area above and below. You can do this with a circle calculator.
Cylinder Calculation:
Use the following additional formula along with the formula above.
• Use the radius and height to calculate volume, side area and total area.
Calculate V, L, A | Given r, h
o Use the formula above
• Pay attention to the radius and volume, height, side area and total area calculated.
Calculate h, L, A | Given r, V.
o h = V / πr2
• Use the radius and side area to calculate the height, volume, and total area.
Calculate h, V, A | Given r, L.
o h = L / 2πr
• Use height and side area to calculate the radius, volume and total area.
Calculate r, V, A | Given h, L.
o r = L / 2πh
• Use height and volume to calculate the radius, side surface and total surface.
Calculate r, L, A | Given h, V.
o $ r = √ (V / πh)
